One day, a Goddess by the name of Brielle, sat on her throne, looking down at the world. She was bored and her brothers, Kilo and Gram were growing restless. Nothing in the world entertained them anymore, so Brielle decided to flood the land and start from scratch.
Brielle decided to drop a dash of salt into the water, and populate the water with a special breed of creatures. These creatures would be known as mermaids.
The mermaids had the torso, head, and arms of a human, and the tail of a fish. The mermaids had the ability to breath under the saltwater, but also to take in the air of the sky. The Goddess decided to make things a little interesting and curse these creatures. The mermaids needed to be in saltwater at least once a month or they would be banished from the world permanently.
As the years went by, the Goddess saw that her creations were becoming smarter and evolving. They created many cities under the vast ocean, made out of beautiful corals and other materials that came from the sea. It was very pleasing to her eyes.
But, soon, Kilo grew jealous of his devine sister. He decided that he would create big lands that would float on the waters, and he would call them islands. He then populated these lands with a new creature, one that would walk on these lands and breath the air.
Kilo's creatures also had the strength of an animal. Kilo decided to curse his creatures as well; once they would come of age, they would turn into the animal that lived inside of them. This part of them only saw what it needed and wanted and they became known as the first set of demons.
As time passed the merpeople and the demons rarely interacted with each other. They lived in two different worlds. The demons created cities of stone and iron, while the merpeople used coral and sand. It wasn't until 500 years ago did the demons and mermaids first meet.
A young mermaid by the name of Faethia decided one day that she would lay out on the rocks at the edge of one of the islands. She was beautiful. She had long red hair that hung over her chest and down her back. Her tail was the deepest blue color that could be mistaken for a sapphire if a person were to see her swim by. Faethia pulled her upper half onto the rocks, leaving her tail submerged in the cool ocean waters. Her tail would often come out of the water and splash back down with a loud noise as it sunk back in. Faethia rested her head on her hands and began to sing a slow, sad melody.
On the same day, a young demon woman by the name of Raitine was heading to the beach after a heated argument with her mother. Her mother wanted her to marry the oldest son of the Juist clan to ensure that they got the larger land from the marriage. When she arrived at the beach, she stopped in her tracks. She heard the voice of the mermaid and it was nothing like she had ever heard before. She quickly located the source of the sound and found the beautiful mermaid.
Faethia continued to sing, not noticing the danger that was lurking about. Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in her side and screamed out in agony. The demon had shot her with an arrow! She turned around to swim away but it was too late.
Raitine grabbed Faethia and ignored her crys. Little did she know, she had just started the war between land and sea.
Faethia's mother was the Goddess of the weather, Acathia. She heard the cries of her princess and grew very very angry. She began to make the waves swell and crash down on Gniist.
Raitine could see the waves grow and the lightning in the sky start to crackle, but she brushed it off as nothing more than a tropical storm. The winds began to howl and hiss as the demon woman carried Faethia back to her home. The mermaid was injured, the arrow had gone through her left hip. She cried out in agony, but Raitine ignored her and trecked on.
She took the long way home, so as to avoid everyone in her village. She didn't want anyone to steal her new treasure. When she arrived into her home, she locked the mermaid in a cage and started to brew some blood tea, a delicacy to the demon people.
"Sing," said the demon to the Faethia. But the mermaid looked back at her terrified. "Sing!"
The mermaid winced from the loud voice of the demon and hid her face. The demon woman grew angry with the mermaid. But, the commotion had drawn attention from a male demon that was passing by her house.
Sabacarus peered through the window to see Raitine torturing the beautiful mermaid. He busted the glass of the window and climbed inside. "Stop shouting at her! You are scaring her!" He didn't care that she was a different species, he only saw that she was the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on.
The demon woman began to grow angry and started to change into her true form. She aimed to lunge at him, but before she even had the chance, the Sabacarus pushed her down and used his demonic strength to tear the cage open and pick up the merwoman in his arms. The princess was terrified, but clung to her rescuer. He carried her to a pond in the middle of the forest that was created by digging a hole to the saltwater beneath the island. He gently let the woman into the water, arrow still protruding from her hip.
Sabacarus looked down at Faethia with dark eyes. "I am going to have to take that out of you, and it's probably going to hurt."
She stared at him with bright blue, terrified eyes. She nodded, deciding to trust him... he had saved her after all.
"Alright, I am going to have to pull this out the same direction it went in so I don't shred your insides to pieces. Turn around and grab onto that tree root over there. Don't let go."
She did as she was told. She gripped onto the root as tightly as she could, her knuckles turning white. The man began to pull gently on the arrow so that it would completely pass through her. The poor princess tried to hold back her screams, but just couldn't. The pain was unbearable. Tears streamed down her face. He finally finished pulling the arrow out and blood began to flow out of her into the water.
Sabacarus quickly took off his shirt and began to rip it so that it would make a long, wide bandage to wrap around her waist. "Here, may I?" She held onto her side to try to stop the bleeding, but knew that the bandage would serve her better so she allowed the man to tie it and cover up her wounds.
"My mother will not like this. She will start war with your people."
The demon snapped his head up, shocked by the mermaid's voice. "So you speak?" She nodded to him.
"I do. You need to return me to the waters quickly, or your people will suffer."
Meanwhile, around the two of them, the winds picked up and the waves crashed down harder. Acathia was not very forgiving, even if Sabacarus had saved her daughter.
He looked down at her with obvious concern on his face. "Well, right now, I am afraid if I try to move you, I'll injure you more. I think it's better if you stay put for a couple days, at least until your wounds have closed."
Faethia was dumbfounded. Could he not see the chaos that was starting around them, or did he just not care? She sighed, knowing that this man was her only way back to the ocean. "Very well, I will stay for one night, but tomorrow morning, you are to take me back to the water, okay?"
Sabacarus just chuckled and shook his head. "You really are a stubborn one, aren't you? Very well, I will take you back to the ocean in the morning, but for tonight you need to rest."
The princess nodded her head in agreement. She still had no clue why this man rescued her or why even the demon woman had shot her with an arrow. "What is your name?" She asked the question as she rested on the tree root, not even looking up at the demon.
"My name is Sabaracus, but most people call me Sabby. How about you?"
"Princess Faethia, first daughter to Acathia, Queen of the Sea and Goddess of Natural Disasters."
"Well, that is one hell of a title. Alright princess, I need to head home before people find out I am missing. Our tribe leader does a bed check every night to make sure that everyone in the clan made it home safe. I promise I will be back here in the morning. Stay hidden to avoid unwanted attention."
The Princess did as she was told, and the next morning, Sebacarus returned to carry her back to the waters that she called home. He couldn't help but stare into her beautiful eyes when he arrived back at the pool of water. In just a short time, Sebacarus had fallen in love with Faethia. She now swam around the water, completely healed overnight. He couldn't help but watch in awe. That was when he decided, he was going to ask Faethia to marry him. Meanwhile, the storm around them only grew stronger, bending trees almost to their brink.
"Faethia, please forgive me, but there is something I must get from town before I take you back home."
Sebacarus kneeled down at the edge of the pool and gathered the Princess's hand in his own. He then looked into her eyes and spoke the five words that she had not in a million years ever expected to hear. "Will you marry me?"
Faethia could feel the tears swelling in her eyes as she slowly nodded her head yes, accepting the proposal from the man who had just saved her life. Instead of returning to the waters that night, Sebacarus brought a family friend to the pool to marry the two. The newlyweds then spent the night in the pool and made love, promising to return to the shore once a week to see each other.
The next morning, Sebacarus carried his bride down to the ocean and let her gently into the water. They kissed once more and said their goodbyes and Faethia went to tell her mother of the news.
Much to her dismay, Acathia was even angrier to hear that her daughter had married one of the demons and cursed their lands with a drought so that they could not water their plants. The island's trees and foliage eventually died too, and the demons lived in a constant desert. Faethia was forbidden to go to the shore and eventually swam off and hid in an underwater cave.
The mermaid shot her head up and looked at him crossly. "That was not the deal we had!"
But, alas, Sebacarus had already turned and walked away. The Princess waited for at least another 2 hours before the demon reappeared with a small box in his hand.
As the months went by, Faethia began to notice that her belly was becoming more and more swollen. She had become pregnant! 8 months later, she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, which she named Sapphire. Sapphire was born a mermaid, but as she got older, Faethia noticed that her tail sometimes disappeared and was replaced with a set of legs. When she was 101 years old, Faethia decided to take her to the shore of the desert island of Gniist. Sapphire stepped out of the water and began to walk around on her legs, almost as if she had been walking her entire life instead of swimming. But, something amazing began to happen. Every footstep that Sapphire took, left a patch of grass and flowers and healthy plants, something the island had not seen in 102 years.
An elderly demon man sat just down the beach and watched as this miracle child began to make things grow with her feet. Sapphire had been blessed with the gift of nature, allowing things to grow and flourish just by touch. The demon man quickly ran into his village and told everyone about what he saw. They followed the man and watched with their own eyes as Sapphire walked around the beach and made things grow with their feet. As a whole, they decided to go out and welcome Sapphire to their land and ask her to stay and help restore the beauty to their island. They all bowed down in front of her.
Faethia watched as the villagers were walking towards her beloved daughter and wasn't sure whether to run or stay. Sapphire was too far on the beach to grab and run, so she decided to stay. To her surprise, they all started bowing at her feet. Sapphire soaked up the attention. She loved being in the spotlight and she looked over at her mother and smiled. This was her calling. This is why she was born; it's what she was meant to do and Faethia knew it.
News quickly spread across the seas and to the other islands of the miracle child. Every clan wanted the child for themselves because having her would improve their way of life. She was a beautiful girl. She had long black hair and stood at just under 6 ft tall. Her skin was kissed by the sun, a gorgeous caramel color. The siren's eyes were a deep blue color, the reason she earned her name. The villagers on the beach decided to deem Sapphire their Queen.
The other tribes began to send men and women to try to gain favor with Sapphire, but they soon realized that the first Queen of Ebon was not one to be easily pleased. The tribe leaders began to ask Sapphire what they could do to earn her blessing. The Queen then came up with the idea of a simple harem. The leaders of each clan would send one male and one female to stay at the castle in the harem house. The member who pleased her the most would be known as the harem mother, regardless of gender. She warned them that the harem mother could change at any given moment, but what would not change is what would happen when her life came to an end.
As the inhabitants were going about their daily routines a servant walks out and stands in the center of each village before the elders homes and removes a scroll from their bag and calls to attention the villagers, "BY WORDS OF HER ROYAL HIGHNESS QUEEN MOTHER SAPPHIRE BRURKAZ TO WHOMEVER THE PARENTS OF HER CHOSEN HAREM CHILD ARE SHALL BE BLESSED FOR THE REST OF HER DAYS AND EXACTLY THIRTEEN YEARS AFTER HER PASSING. AS THIS HAS BEEN STATED SO TO SHALL IT BE LAW."
And this is where our story begins..
